South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is a forthright second amendment supporter:
Gov. Nikki Haley said Tuesday that she backs a proposal that would make it legal for most South Carolinians to carry guns – concealed or in the open – without a permit or the training that the state currently requires.Haley made her comments after she signed into law a bill that allows gun owners with licenses to carry concealed weapons into businesses that serve alcohol – restaurants and bars – as long as they do not drink alcohol and the businesses did not bar guns.
After signing the restaurant and bar bill, Haley said she backs a pending state Senate bill, called the “Constitutional Carry Act,” that would eliminate the state’s current permitting and training requirements for citizens who wish to carry firearms.
“Criminals are dangerous, and I think that every resident should be allowed to protect themselves from criminals,” Haley said when asked by The State to respond to some state senators’ fears that doing away with the permitting and training requirements could threaten the public.
Democratic opposition to the bill (S.15) will make it tough to pass, but Haley’s support is a clear and important factor.

Prayers are cheap. Supporting the NRA agenda of guns everywhere is what pays the bills for Republicans. So there can be more people murdered by guns in the hands of racists, haters and lunatics. Nikki Haley is responsible for lax gun laws that make gun deaths frequent.
I feel you are hypocritical in sending a message of support to those affected by the tragice shooting at the historic Emanuel AME church. You have advocated for lax gun laws which allows for disturbed individuals to access these weapons.
Governor Haley, your thoughts and prayers after a mass shooting do NO GOOD. It is your actions before the fact – i.e. NOT creating and passing stronger gun laws that IS part of the problem. Your thoughts and prayers will not bring the victims of gun violence back to life or allow their families to fulfill their dreams of a life with the victims.
YOU have the power to change this by passing stronger gun laws. YOU could prevent future gun deaths with positive gun reform. It is up to YOU and other elected officials to do everything you can to prevent this travesty of gun deaths.
Use YOUR power to effect change. How would you feel if the victims were your parents, children, friends or neighbors? You have the choice to MAKE a difference and stand up to the NRA and its supporters. You have the choice to choose lives over guns. Please be a governor who thinks first of people and NOT gun rights. Guns are made for killing people – is that what you want to protect, or will you do the right thing and pass laws to strengthen gun control and put protections in place for your state? If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Use your power for good, for the people of your state. Be an example of positive gun control changes for the country.
