Washington School Blasted for Making Students Wear Ankle Monitors, “Over My Dead Body”

When covid-19 first began to spread, criminal justice systems around the world started releasing incarcerated people because prisons became coronavirus hot spots, many being released with electronic ankle monitors that tracked their movements around the clock.

Now a Washington state public high school is taking a lot of heat for forcing student athletes and coaches to wear ankle bracelets for COVID tracking purposes. It focuses on students who in high-contact and moderate-contact sports, such as volleyball, basketball, football and soccer.

Eatonville High School bought the contact tracing monitors, made by a company called Triax, that tracks those an infected person came into contact with over a specified period of time.

Parents are outraged by the measures, saying that “ankle monitors are for criminals, not children.”
