Taxpayers in New Jersey are furious at the impending “rain tax” bill passed by the state legislature on Jan. 31 and now being prepared for Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy’s signature.
New Jersey is already one of the most heavily taxed states in the US. In 2016 individual income tax collections per capita was $1,488, the seventh-highest in the nation. It also has the highest property tax in the country. The average tax bill in 2017 was $8,690, according to the state Department of Community Affairs.
New Jersey has entered the ninth circle of taxation hell and one wonders where it will stop. Will there be a tax on the air? How about taxing the empty spaces people constantly walk into?
“Every time you think there’s nothing left to tax, we come up with something else,” Assemblyman Hal Wirths (R-Morris-Sussex) said during a debate on the measure.
“It’s just never-ending down here.”

Next thing I expect is a Carbon dioxide tax imposed on the citizens for exhaling CO2.
Followed by a consumption tax on oxygen.
New Jersey officials NEED TO BE INVESTIGATED. How much do they make compared to their bank accounts? I smell corruption and padded pockets in a big way.
As a percentage, I’d like to see the numbers on who has more paved acreage, the citizens or the state? Then add the number of building permits that were issued by the state and it’s representatives that allowed it. (for a fee, I’m sure). And point out to the officials that if they were so concerned about runoff, they should have been keeping watch on how much land they allowed development on, and where…to now come after people for doing what the state has condoned, and collected a fee for, reeks of a no win situation for the people, and a no lose situation for Trenton.
I forsee a great new business venture digging up and grinding up driveways. Then re-lay the new concrete chunkletts and some gravel that will allow water to drain through.
The basis for the tax wasn’t described but here in Gastonia we have a $3/lot run off tax monthly to cover the cost of rain ☔️ going into the sewers. Our city council is, I believe, % Republican or very near.
Actually this was instituted by the democrats, not the republicans.
Keep voting for your democrats!
