Over 20% of America’s children are on food stamps and the US child poverty rate, which is the percent of children living in households with incomes below 50 percent of the national average, is 23.1 percent. Only Romania is worse at 23.6 percent

Republicans in Congress have sought to cut back on SNAP and other social welfare programs as part of a larger plan to balance the budget. In 2014, Congress p$#%&!@*ed a farm bill that cut $8.6 billion from the food stamp program, eliminating benefits for about 850,000 people, according to estimates by anti-hunger advocates.
Children on food stamps dropped from a post-recession high of over 25 percent of kids ‒ almost 20 million ‒ in fiscal year 2011. Children accounted for 45 percent of aid receivers during that time. A record 20 percent of Americans received SNAP benefits at the end of 2013.”
