LEFTIST PROTEST #9: BERKELEY RIOTS
Rightwing commentator, Milo Yiannopoulos, was scheduled to speak at the University of California in February of this year and this may be the actual beginning of the new Antifa movement, because they had begun to protest his arrival, claiming that he was a Fascist and that they were anti-Fascists who were intent on disallowing him from exercising his First Amendment right to free speech by either hurting him or hurting any others who showed up to listen to him.
And they were successful in shutting down the entire affair in a number of ways. First, the students and the outsider agitators (bought-and-paid-for protesters by your favorite Leftist grievance benefactor) gathered at the college and began screaming at each other (yes, at each other) and waving signs about how they would bust some heads if any Fascists showed up in that forum.
Soon, the protest moved from the campus grounds and into the streets surrounding Berkeley. The campus police were advised to stand down so that the protesters wouldn’t be harmed and that’s when the fuzzy, cheery, innocent little children opted to begin burning, looting, damaging and violently attacking the city, its residents and its police officers.
Masked agitators of unknown origin had shown up and ginned up enough hatred in the crowd of nearly 2,000, who then decided to mask themselves as well and begin cascading professional-grade Molotov cocktails down upon police officers who stood near barricades. Hours went by as vandals smashed and shouted their way through town, with no sign of police at that point. Waving banners that stated, “Become Ungovernable,” and “This is War!” the rioters then set fire to many buildings. By 11 p.m., the police lifted the campus lockdown and had arrested only 13 people, including one for assault with a deadly weapon, and one officer and six others were admitted to a local hospital for treatment. All told, the riot to shut down free speech and combat Fascism cost the city and campus nearly $200K.
